It is April 2015, and Samsung has completely reinvented itself. The Galaxy S6 is the ‘Project Zero’ reboot, ditching the plastic and removable batteries of the past for a stunning ‘glass and metal’ unibody. It features a solid aerospace-grade aluminium frame and Gorilla Glass 4 on both sides, creating a 138g device that finally feels like a true luxury product. In the UK, it has arrived as a technical powerhouse that prioritises speed, display quality, and a drastically simplified user interface.

The technical headline is the 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display. With a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a staggering 577 PPI, it is the sharpest and most vibrant screen Samsung had ever produced. Under the hood, Samsung made the bold technical move to use its own 14nm Exynos 7420 octa-core processor and LPDDR4 RAM, outperforming the competition in almost every benchmark. The 16-megapixel camera features an f/1.9 aperture and OIS, and can be launched in just 0.7 seconds with a double-tap of the home button.

Connectivity includes 4G LTE Cat 6, Wi-Fi ac, and built-in wireless charging that supports both Qi and PMA standards. While the loss of the microSD slot and removable battery was controversial, the move to ultra-fast UFS 2.0 internal storage provided a massive boost to system responsiveness. The Galaxy S6 is a landmark of industrial design and silicon engineering, marking the moment Samsung truly mastered the premium smartphone.
